Latimer Journal is first published.

An antislavery newspaper, it is published by Dr. Henry Bowditch and others to protest the arrest of George Latimer as a runaway slave. In the edition of November 16, 1842, Bowditch writes, “The moment a slaveholder enters the metropolis . . . He becomes Emperor of Massachusetts, and King of Boston! His word is law.”
